  • [Design] I love process. I’ve been loving the Book Cover Design Process by Tim Yeo he shared in his newsletters.
  • [Financial Literacy] I’ve taken a financial literacy course through SmartPurse and subscribe to a lot of their content even though their UK based. This came through the other week and was a bit mind-blowing for me.
    • Welcome to this week’s Money Minute! Today, let’s talk about something many of us face but rarely discuss openly: the menstrual cycle. You might wonder, “How the heck does this relate to money or achieving my goals?” Great question - let’s dive in We all  know the menstrual cycle can impact our energy levels, mood, overall well-being - and if like me, the amount of chocolate one can consume in one sitting! However, having a 28 day hormonal cycle doesn’t have to be a barrier to success. Here are some tips to stay on track financially and professionally, even during your cycle:
      1. Plan Ahead: About 85% of women experience premenstrual symptoms, with 38% finding them severe enough to affect daily activities (ACOG). Use a menstrual tracking app to anticipate your cycle and schedule important tasks for when you’ll be feeling your best.Self-Care Equals Success: Many studies show that practicing self-care can reduce PMS symptoms. Prioritize proper nutrition, hydration, and rest to maintain productivity. Find out how to eat for your cycle at the bottom of this mailBudget for Comfort: The average woman spends about $13.25 per month on menstrual products. (Ballard Brief). Considering sustainable options like menstrual cups ($20-$40, lasting up to 10 years) or reusable pads and period underwear, not only save you money, but also the environmentBe kind to yourself and adjust your goals when necessary: Our cycles last on average 28 days, it’s okay isn’t as productive as the last, we are not machines! Remember in many countries you can ask for flexible working if suitable (A study found that nearly 60% of managers believe flexible work environments boost productivity!)
Interestingly, some countries like Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia offer menstrual leave, acknowledging the challenges women face and supports their well-being. However, if you don’t live in one of these countries - your menstrual cycle still doesn’t have to be an obstacle to achieving your goals. By planning ahead, prioritizing self-care, budgeting for comfort, and staying flexible, you can maintain your productivity and continue working towards your dreams.
  • [Food] I’ve had this open on my phone forever and now I’m finally putting it into the ether. This is the place I had one of the best panini sandwiches ever in Florence. Their menu is incredible.
  • [Psychology] Moving in childhood contributes to depression.
  • [Psychology] Differentiating Asian Cultural Values vs. Emotionally Immature Parenting. Really good one by Yellow Chair Collective.
  • [Psychology] A friend sent this to me a while back. Powerful read. The Uterus and the Will to Power.
  • [Psychology] Japan’s Buddhist Robot Preacher.
  • [Psychology] Been a fan of Esther Perel for a while. This video sums up a lot of her different work in one go. Warning, it’s a tad long.

  • [Urban Design] Transforming textiles into bricks. Mind-blowing.
  • [Urban Design] I visited the Marrickville Library properly for the first time and I was so impressed. I know it had won some architectural awards, but it really floored me. The thoughtful considerations for the different kinds of spaces, the blending of the new and the old, the aesthetics so well married with the utilitarian aspects - SO GOOD.
